Collegiate Skating Programs
In Intercollegiate Skating, skaters compete individually to amass points for their school's team. Events offered include: Short Program, Excel Free Skate, Championship Free Skate, Solo Pattern Dance, and Solo Free Dance. All events are scored using the 6.0 scoring system, and team points are assigned based on placements in each individual event.
In addition, Intercollegiate competitions offer Team Maneuver events, in which representatives from each team perform 7 elements, including jumps, spins, footwork, and twizzles. Click here to see a list of required Team Maneuver elements for the 2021-2022 season.
Events/levels offered include:
Short Program (Juvenile - Senior)
Excel Free Skate (High Beginner - Senior)
Championship Free Skate (Junior - Senior)
Solo Pattern Dance (Prelim - International)
Solo Free Dance (Intermediate - Senior)
Team Maneuver (Low, Intermediate, High)
There are no testing requirements for Intercollegiate Skating - anyone can participate!

There are two divisions of Collegiate Synchronized Skating:
Open Collegiate teams can comprise of 8-16 skaters and compete under the 6.0 judging system. Open Collegiate teams may compete at non-qualifying and Sectional competitions.
Collegiate teams can comprise of 12-16 skaters and compete under the International Judging System (IJS) using Junior Free Skate rules. Collegiate teams may compete at non-qualifying and Sectional competitions, and also have the opportunity to advance to the U.S. Synchronized Figure Skating Championships.
Open Collegiate Synchronized skating has no test requirement of its skaters.
Collegiate Synchronized skaters must have passed their Pre-Juvenile Moves in the Field (MITF) tests.

Currently, there are no Collegiate Synchronized skating programs on the Pacific Coast.
The U.S. Collegiate Championships are an annual qualifying event that occurs every summer. Current or incoming full-time college students are eligible to compete in Junior - Senior freestyle events. Skaters do not need to be a part of an established Collegiate or Intercollegiate figure skating team to compete.
Additionally, the Pioneer Fund distributes scholarships to medalists at the U.S. Collegiate Championships. Scholarship amounts change each year and are determined following the close of entries.
Currently, events are offered for Junior - Senior singles freestyle events. Competitors must show proof of current enrollment (or future enrollment, for incoming freshmen) in an accredited 2-year or 4-year college. Skaters need not be a part of an established Collegiate or Intercollegiate team in order to compete.
