LAFSC COMPETITIONS

The Los Angeles Figure Skating Club holds four competitions each year. Entries for each competition are processed through Entryeeze for the Adult Mid-Winter Warmup Open Championships, California Championships, Showcase for Skaters, and LA Open Championships.

LA AUTUMN CLASSIC

This is a new competition held at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo. In 2023 this has been designated a NQS series event. This year's dates are October 5-8, 2023. Mark your calendars!

STILLWELL ADULT MID-WINTER WARMUP OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

This is our annual all adult yearly competition held each February at the East West Ice Palace in Artesia, CA. The competition is named in honor of Morry and Elda Stillwell, long time members of the LAFSC, supporters of adult skaters and wonderful people. Morry was a past president of LAFSC and US Figure Skating and contributed over 70 years to the sport prior to his passing and Elda has been an accountant for over 30 years. We are proud and privileged to call them our own. Thank you Morry & Elda!

The dedicated Entryeeze registration page for signup is located at the following link:

This link will be active approximately 30 days before the registration deadline for each year’s competition. Please check back in that time frame to register.

  • THE STILLWELL TROPHY

This prestigious trophy honors Morry and Elda Stillwell. Morry, former president of US Figure Skating, has contributed over 70 years to the sport and Elda, behind the scenes in accounting, has contributed over 25 years. Morry and Elda have shown all of us what it means to have passion for what we choose to do. Skating is not about an element or even a competition, it is about passion and drive to be the best you can, and to always enjoy what you are doing.

The Stillwell Trophy, a perpetual trophy is awarded to two skaters for the most inspirational performances in a freeskate, dance or showcase event at the Adult Mid-Winter Warmup. One winner will be chosen from levels No Test to Adult Bronze and another from levels Adult Silver to Masters Junior/Senior. The trophy will be presented at the close of the competition and winners selected by the Adult Mid-Winter officials. The perpetual trophy will remain with the LAFSC with the skaters’ names engraved on it and an individual trophy will be awarded to the winners.

CALIFORNIA CHAMPIONSHIPS

This is our annual competition held each May at the East West Ice Palace in Artesia, CA.

The dedicated Entryeeze registration page for signup is located at the following link:

This link will be active approximately 30 days before the registration deadline for each year’s competition. Please check back in that time frame to register.

  • THE VALE TROPHY

This perpetual trophy honors Virginia Vale, a long time member of the Los Angeles FSC, and a U.S. Figure Skating judge who passed away in 2006. Prior to becoming a U.S. Figure Skating official, Virginia skated and competed briefly, and was an actress under contract with Paramount Studios and made several movies. She judged for more than 60 years, served on our Board of Directors, and chaired numerous U.S. Figure Skating committees. Her life in the movies and skating was featured in the 2002 U.S. Nationals Program.

The Vale Trophy is given to the skater who is deemed to have given the most outstanding performance at the California Championships.

LAFSC SHOWCASE FOR SKATERS

This is our annual ground breaking theatrical skating competition held each June at L.A. Kings Pickwick Ice in Burbank, CA.

The 2023 Entryeeze registration page is located at this link.

  • THE JOANNE FUNAKOSHI TROPHY

Joanne Funakoshi is an exceptionally talented individual, both as a dancer and a skater.  She was recruited to skate in the Ice Capades, which she did for almost twenty years.  Even after she stopped skating, Joanne stayed very involved in skating as a photographer at events all across Southern California.  For as long as LAFSC's Showcase has been in existence, the Funakoshi Award has been the main prize.

The Joanne Funakoshi Award is awarded to the skater who demonstrates the best theatrical performance of the competition.  It is based on the results of the final repeat performance at the end of the competition.  This re-skate event is open to 1st place medal winners from all singles events except extemporaneous.

  • THE JENNIFER RITTER AWARD

Jennifer Ritter was an outstanding skater who especially excelled at extemperaneous events.  She was just a child when she lost her battle with cancer in 1989.  The year before she passed away, the LAFSC Junior Board created and presented this award in her honor.  Her legacy lives on in this award.

The Jennifer Ritter Award is awarded to the skater who has the best extemporaneous performance of the competition.  It is based on the results of the final repeat performance at the end of the competition.  This re-skate event is open to 1st place medal winners from the extemporaneous events.

  • THE TAI BABILONIA TROPHY

Tai Babilonia and her partner, Randy Gardner were National Pair Champions from 1976 through 1980, and World Champions in 1979. Tai has always been an exceptional skater and role model in this sport.  LAFSC is proud to have Tai and Randy as lifetime club members.  Tai competed in Showcase and won the Funakoshi Award as a skater.  She donated the Tai Babilonia Award to encourage and reward the new generation of artistic and theatrical pairs and group skating.

The Tai Babilonia Award is awarded to the best theatrical performance of the competition by a duet or group.  It is based on the results of the final repeat performance at the end of the competition.  This re-skate event is open to 1st place medal winners from all the duets, dance and group events.

  • THE ANGELA EASTON ADULT TROPHY

The award is given in memory of Angela Easton who left us way too soon.  Angela was a devoted adult skater, who juggled skating, her career, and her family, and unfortunately lost her battle with breast cancer in 2003.

The Angela Easton Adult Award is awarded to the best adult singles performance of the competition.  It is based on the results of a repeat performance of the 1st place medal winners of the adult events, except the extemporaneous adult winner which is included in the Ritter re-skates.

member) who served the club as President in 1988-1989. Virginia was the test chair for the Club for years, and was always a wonderful volunteer and supporter of the Club.
