Hello LAFSC,
Showcase for Skaters is just under one month away! June 8 & 9, 2013.
Once again, I am both registrar and lighting director for our Club’s Showcase for Skaters competition. I’m calling on all of our membership to support your Club by volunteering your services for this very special competition. We need your help –even if you and/or your skater are not competing. It is only with the cooperation of our fantastic volunteers that we can continue to offer events like this for our members and the skaters of Southern California. I often hear parents say, “I want to be more involved, but I am never sure what I can do.” Here’s your chance. No experience necessary. Please commit to giving a few hours of your time — even if you or your skater is not competing!
Spotlights: First, I need 2 people for the Los Angeles Ice Theater Show, on Friday June 7 at 8 pm. Then, I need LOTS of operators for the competition. Shifts usually run from ice cut to ice cut. You do not need to have previous experience. We will train you. Adult skaters welcome, Teenagers 15 and older welcome, Dads, Big Brothers, Big Sisters — all are welcome and necessary.
Skater Check-in table: This table needs to be manned for the entire competition. I would love it if an adult skater or parent would agree to be in charge of this table and recruit folks to man it and set up a schedule. You will check in officials, skaters, and coaches, distribute their badges and direct the skaters to the music check-in table in the arena. You are the first contact our competitors and their parents have when they walk in the door. Those of you who helped last year were terrific! I would love to have all of you back!
Music Check-in table: Inside the arena. I would love it if an adult skater or parent would agree to be in charge of this table and recruit folks to man it and set up a schedule. This table collects music from the skaters, makes sure they fill out the skater info form, organizes the CDs and makes sure they get to the announcer and music person. You also collect music from the announcer when an event is over and set it out for skaters to pick up. You also keep the music from the 1st place finisher in each event.
