2013 40th ANNUAL SHOWCASE EVENT & PERPETUAL TROPHY RECAP. SHOWCASE FOR SKATERS FOUNDERS HONORED!

The 40th Annual LAFSC Showcase For Skaters concluded this evening and we would like to extend congratulations to all the skaters who performed with many stellar and inventive programs! This ground breaking theatrical figure skating competition, which was first conceived, developed and produced by the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club in 1974, continues to shine and set the standard for theatrical figure skating competitions.

This year we celebrated our 40th annual competition, and were very privileged to bring together the founders of LAFSC’s Showcase For Skaters to be present at the competition. Eleanor & Jack Curtis, Bonnie & Ken Taylor, and Elda & Morry Stillwell were acknowledged in a special presentation prior to the Funakoshi reskates for their pioneering vision and efforts at bringing to fruition the very first theatrical figure skating competition. It is due to their efforts that today we have so many Showcase competitions around the country, including the now very popular National Showcase competition. Many thanks are due to Ellie, Jack, Bonnie, Ken, Elda & Morry who made it possible for a myriad numbers of skaters to bring their own artistic skating visions to the ice, and for audiences across the Nation to experience the magic of a theatrical skating competition. It was truly a fantastic competition and event for us this year.

We do owe a large debt of gratitude to all our officials, volunteers and spectators who came out and supported this event and the competitors. It was great weeked filled with wonderfully creative and entertaining programs, many of which should shine at the National Showcase competition in August.

We are truly very fortunate at the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club to have a very fine tradition of having not only many marvelously talented skaters who chose to represent our club at the National, World and Olympic levels, but also a long line of dedicated officials whose hard work and dediction to figure skating made the sport better by their involvement in it.
