CONGRATULATIONS TO SHOTARO OMORI!

The 2012 Junior Grand Prix Istanbul event took place September 19-23, 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey. LAFSC’s Shotaro Omori competed and placed 4th! This is Shotaro’s third Junior Grand Prix event. Last year he had two assignments. This year in Istanbul, Shotaro landed his first triple axel (in combination) ever in competition! Awesome job Shotaro! Best of luck to you this season. We’re rooting for you!

Dear SWP Regional Championships Qualifying Competitors:

LAFSC is pleased to announce that we have obtained ice time at Pickwick Ice Center for our 2013 Southwest Pacific Regional Championships Critique. Registration will be on a “First Come-First Served” basis. Spots fill up quickly and there is limited time available so please reserve your spot ASAP!

At the time you register for your critique you must provide us with your planned program elements & designate whether you will be performing your short or long program in order for us to confirm your spot.

LAFSC SKATERS CONTINUE TO SHINE IN SALT LAKE CITY!

The first medals were awarded Saturday, September 15 at the 2012 U.S. Challenge Skate, as the novice ladies, pairs and dance events concluded in Salt Lake City, and skaters from LAFSC were on the podium in each event we had skaters in.

 

In Novice Pairs, LAFSC’s Elise Middleton and Robert Hennings finished atop the podium. Skating their long program to “Immortal Beloved”, Elise & Robert won their free skate event by more than nine points over the second place team, and finished the competition leading the field by over twelve points! Great job! Congratulations to Elise and Robert and coach Peter Oppegard!

In the Novice Ladies event, Cheyenne Taylor, skated a strong free program and came home with the Silver Medal. Congratulations Cheyenne! We miss you back in Los Angeles, but are so happy to see that you are skating great and enjoying your new training location!

In Novice Dance, LAFSC’s Lauren Leonesio and partner Quinn Chambers came away with a Bronze Medal after the free dance! Congratulations to Lauren!

In the Junior Ladies event, Amanda Gelb moved up from her short program placement, and finished placed in fifth place overall after her free skate. Congratulations Amanda!

In the U.S. International Classic segment of the Salt Lake City competition, Don Baldwin and partner Tiffany Vise took home the Bronze in Senior Pairs. Congratulations to Don and Tiffany!

What a great weekend for our skaters. All of us at the Los Angeles Figure Skating club wish you all continued success this season!

LAFSC SKATERS LEAD THE WAY AT US CHALLENGE SKATE EVENT IN SALT LAKE CITY!

Several of our LAFSC skaters began their competition at the U.S. Challenge Skate on Thursday, as novice skaters took the ice in Salt Lake City for the pattern dance and the ladies and pairs short programs. The Challenge Skate event is being held in conjunction with the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic.

In the Novice Pairs event, LAFSC skaters Elise Middleton and Robert Hennings lead the event after the pairs short program with their Skaters Waltz program. They currently lead the field by more than 3 points. Go Elise and Robert! Elise and Robert are coached by LAFSC lifetime member and Olympic Bronze Medalist, Peter Oppegard.

In the Novice Ladies event, LAFSC’s Cheyenne Taylor is currently in second place going into Saturday’s free skate. Cheyenne landed a triple lutz combination in her short program. Awesome Cheyenne! Have a great free skate!

In the Novice Dance event, LAFSC’s Lauren Leonesio with partner Quinn Chambers are currently in second place after their Starlight Waltz Pattern Dance. Lauren and Quinn will complete their competition with Saturday’s free dance. Go Lauren!

LAFSC’s Amanda Gelb will be competing on Friday morning in the Junior Ladies event in the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic portion of this event. Good luck Amanda! We’re rooting for you back home!

TEST SESSION SEPT 9 EAST/WEST CANCELLED!

Hi All,

I had no takers for this test session at East/West so it is cancelled.  We will have a test session at Pickwick on September 30 and it is filling up so sign up now if you need to.  There will be test sessions in October at both rinks Pickwick will be October 28 and I don’t have the date yet for East/West but will post it as soon as I do.  See you soon!

OPPORTUNITY FOR LAFSC JUNIOR MEMBERS!

Attention: All LAFSC Junior Members:

The Los Angeles Figure Skating Club would like to invite all interested junior members to act as leaders and liaisons for all our members under the age of 18 by participating in the 2012-2013 LAFSC Junior Council. The Junior Council will coordinate events, plan fundraisers, and work with the Senior Board/Members on competitions and other club events.

If you are:
  • at least 13 years old, but under the age of 18 (as of July 2012)
  • dedicated and organized
  • able to commit to attending an in person meeting at least once a month
  • good at bringing people together (even some of our shyer members!)
  • interested in the opportunity to receive community service credits for your participation in Junior Council events

CONGRATULATIONS TO AJ REISS!

Congratulations to LAFSC Home Club Member AJ Reiss and pairs partner, Jessica Pfund, who were assigned to compete at the 2012 Junior Grand Prix event in Lake Placid this past week. AJ & Jessica finished the competition in 5th place overall, after placing 5th in the short program, and 7th in the long program. We all wish the best of luck to AJ and Jessica this season!

AJ & Jessica are coached by LAFSC lifetime member and 1988 Olympic Pairs Bronze Medalist, Peter Oppegard.

RESULTS OF LAFSC SKATERS FROM GW COMPETITION THIS WEEKEND. GO TEAM LAFSC!

Congratulations to all our LAFSC skaters who performed well at the Golden West Championships this weekend! Team LAFSC is warming up for a great showing at the 2013 SWP Regional Championships in Arizona. Keep up the good work! We’re all cheering on your efforts! Go TEAM LAFSC!
